Activist Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi's Conscientious Struggle and Memory

On September 4, we went to Aydın Didim to attend the funeral of activist Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was murdered by Israel in the West Bank. On this painful day, we were there as the Vicdan Foundation to be with the Eygi family and share their pain.

Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi was known not only as an activist but also as a conscientious person. Ayşenur, who passed away at the age of 26, was someone who fought against injustice and stood by the oppressed throughout her life. Her story is an example of conscience that will inspire everyone.

Who is Aysenur Ezgi Eygi?

Born in Antalya in 1998, Ayşenur moved to the US with her family and spent most of her life there. However, she never lost touch with her roots and maintained her ties to Turkey. She studied psychology at the University of Washington in the US and continued her fight for social justice there.

Ayşenur’s activism journey began at a young age. She collaborated with various socialist groups and environmental movements in the US, taking an active role in the protection of Sioux Indian lands and in actions against environmental pollution. She also went to Myanmar to show solidarity with the oppressed Rohingya Muslims and stayed in the camps to provide aid. This sacrifice shows that she is not only an activist, but also a person with a deep conscience.

His Struggle in Palestine and His Final Journey

Ayşenur could not remain silent against the oppression experienced by the Palestinian people. She decided to go to the West Bank to stand in solidarity with Palestinian civilians. This decision was another indication of her search for justice for humanity. However, on September 6, she was shot dead by Israeli soldiers during a demonstration in the town of Beyta.

Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, just like Rachel Corrie, displayed exemplary behavior by putting her own life on the line to prevent the oppression experienced by others. Her courage inspires us as the Vicdan Foundation.

As the Vicdan Foundation, we will take more determined steps in our struggle for justice and human rights by taking Ayşenur's life and struggle as an example. We remember Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi with respect and mercy, and wish patience to her family and all her loved ones.
