Stories of Conscience (Digital)
Stories of Conscience brings together “stories of the unseen and unheard” – narratives rooted in real testimonies collected by the Vicdan Foundation from individuals who have faced serious human rights violations and their families.
The book is built on witness accounts shared with the Foundation: people who have gone through judicial processes, lost loved ones, been imprisoned, displaced, or caught in the middle of conflict. These experiences were first conveyed to an AI system, and then the texts produced through that narrative filter were carefully reviewed and edited by humans to give them a responsible literary form. In this way, the book creates a bridge between the striking power of reality and the aesthetic language of fiction.
Each story functions as a piece of collective memory: recording injustices, trauma and silent cries; inviting the reader not only to feel individual pain, but also to confront the long echo of social memory. The book does not aim at political, ideological, religious or ethnic propaganda, nor does it legitimize crime or violence; its purpose is documentation and human rights advocacy through literature.
At the end of every story, the reader finds a short note about the real person whose testimony inspired it and a QR code leading to the video testimony on the Foundation’s YouTube channel (where available). In this way, the reader can move from fiction back to reality and encounter the actual witness behind the narrative.
This digital edition contains the full English text of the book, published in Ankara in October 2025 under Vicdan Foundation Publishing Services. It is both a literary work and a call to conscience – inviting readers to remember, to empathize, and to take responsibility in the face of human suffering.
